Frequently asked

Everything customers usually ask before ordering — lead times, delivery, payment and care. Anything else, WhatsApp the studio on 072 087 1324.

Ordering & lead times

How long does an order take?
Standard lead time is 2–4 weeks, because each piece is woven to order. Larger sets in busy periods can take longer, and we tell you upfront when that applies.
Do you deliver across South Africa?
Yes. We ship nationwide. Shipping is quoted per order based on the size of the piece and your destination, so it is confirmed with you before payment rather than estimated at the checkout.
Can I pay by card?
Not yet on this website. Orders are completed by EFT against a proforma invoice, or arranged over WhatsApp. A live card gateway will be enabled once merchant credentials are in place.
Can I see a piece before buying?
Message the studio. We can send additional photographs or video of current work, and viewing can sometimes be arranged by appointment.

Pieces, care & aftercare

Do you take custom or trade orders?
Yes. We regularly make pieces sized for a specific space, and we work with interior designers and hospitality clients. Send the dimensions and intended use and we will tell you honestly whether we can do it.
Will my piece look exactly like the photographs?
Very close, but not identical. Rattan and cane are natural materials, so tone, grain and weave tension vary slightly between pieces. That variation is a feature of hand work.
How do I care for rattan?
Keep it out of continuous direct sun, dust along the weave, and wipe marks with a barely damp cloth then dry immediately. Full guidance lives on each product page and in the journal.
What if something arrives damaged?
Tell us within 7 days with photographs. We repair or replace transit damage — hand-woven pieces can usually be rewoven rather than written off.

Handcrafted furniture — materials, durability & sourcing

What is handcrafted furniture, exactly?
Handcrafted furniture is made by a person rather than a machine line. At LOWE that means each frame is shaped and each cane surface woven by hand, row by row, after you place the order — not pulled from stock produced in a factory run.
What materials do you use?
Natural rattan and cane over shaped timber or rattan frames. Rattan is the solid palm vine used for the frame; cane is its outer skin, peeled and woven into the seat, back or panel. We use no synthetic resin weave and leave the fibre unbleached so the grain stays visible.
Where is your rattan and cane sourced from?
Our cane and rattan are sourced through regional suppliers of natural, plantation-grown rattan, and every piece is woven here in South Africa by the studio's weavers. If you need supply details for a specification or trade order, ask us and we will share what our suppliers confirm.
How durable is handcrafted rattan furniture?
Very, within its conditions. Kept under cover, dusted along the weave and out of standing water and sustained direct sun, handwoven cane holds its tension and colour for years. Its real advantage is repairability: a lifted or broken strand can be rewoven by hand rather than written off.
Can handcrafted furniture be used outdoors in South Africa?
In covered outdoor areas, yes — stoeps, verandas, pergolas, courtyards and covered balconies. Natural fibre should not be left in the rain or in all-day summer sun, which dries and embrittles the weave.
Is every handcrafted piece identical?
No, and it should not be. Tone, grain and weave tension shift slightly between pieces because the material is natural and the work is human. Two chairs from the same order will read as a pair, not as clones.
Do you repair handcrafted pieces later on?
Yes. Because pieces are woven by hand they can be rewoven by hand. Send photographs of the damage and we will tell you whether it is a reweave, a frame repair or something we would rather replace.
